Portland is an adventure town. We’re surrounded by a dense, fairy tale wilderness, sparkling waterfalls that empty into glittering rivers, and snow-capped mountains that dwarf even our tallest skyscrapers. Portland offers adventure possibilities that most big-little cities could only dream of. From hiking, climbing, and kayaking to alternative theater, adult arcades, and basement rock shows, Portland has an adventure for every stoner. Here are a few of our faves:
For the active toker, a bike ride around Sauvie Island can be an exercise in misty river fun. Sauvie Island’s roads wind through breathtaking farmlands, sandy beige beaches and lush marshes and wetlands, teeming with native birds and wildlife. Expect to see a few bald eagles, hawks on the hunt, and at least a heron or two.
For the stoner more in tune with city life than country livin’, a preroll and an afternoon at Ground Kontrol is the perfect recipe for a killer few hours. Ground Kontrol, Portland’s adult “barcade,” fully stocked with retro consoles, vintage, and modern pinball machines and newly minted experimental games. Top off your downtown visit with a stroll around Chinatown, where you can browse Floating World Comics, sniff Chen’s Good Taste, and maybe end your excursion with a visit to Lan Su’s Chinese Garden.
For the cannabis consumer who prefers lounging to adventuring (we can relate) consider taking your lounge act to Cathedral Park in St Johns where you can recline and watch the river slowly undulate downstream while the sun serves the west hills with a Midas touch.
