For years, cannabis baked goods have been synonymous with cookies and brownies. Legalization of recreational marijuana changed the way many of us look at weed edibles. Today, you can walk into a dispensary and order weed lollipops, gummy bears, chocolate bars, and even gourmet soft caramels. The idea of the marijuana edible has changed for sure, but that doesn’t make the classic baked goods so many of us grew up with any less iconic. Here are three of our favorite classic, and unexpected cannabis edible recipes to get your oven warmed up for fall.
Space Cakes—Is there a more iconic weed treat than space cakes? Admittedly, space cake could be used to describe any marijuana edible, but this recipe harkens to the original space cakes, served in Amsterdam’s legendary coffeehouses, and is a poundcake grandma would approve of (if grandma was a hippy)
Purple Kush Cake—This simple-enough-for-the-stoniest-stoner recipe is about as easy as it gets. This is a pretty standard rich chocolate cake with two not-so-mystery ingredients that give its name—purple food coloring and the kush of your choice. Despite its relative simplicity, it is sure to impress whomever it is served to.
Jalebis—These south Asian treats are made with a cannabis-infused clarified butter, or ghee, but get their signature flavor from the tart yogurt in the recipe. These are great party snacks, but be sure to warn the crowd to take it slow- these are delicious enough to eat in excess.
